DAY#16 of 365-White Tulips and a Day of Rest
I have decided to make every Sunday a day of rest and relaxation…and it is a good way to start the week.
We all need a little more rest and relaxation in ‘the big city’, and I am trying to find and discover new ways and ideas on how to do just that. Life in any big city can get very busy and hectic and the stress from that can build up and I have learned is not good for your overall health. I went to a bikram yoga class in the day, picked up a pretty white tulip plant from a local convenience store for only $4.99 on the way home, took a long bubble bath in some rose scented bath oils I received as a Christmas gift and took a long nap and very needed. Afternoon siestas should be made law everywhere in the world.
I spent the rest of the day in my PJs and lounging in my bed for most of the day looking at my beautiful white tulips
and doing absolutely NOTHING. I love fresh flowers, especially in the winter. A reminder of spring that is just right around the corner. I will makes sure I have some form of fresh cut or potted pretty flowering plant in my house the entire winter. It really is a good way to beat the winter blues that creeps up on you during the colder and darker winter months.
Years ago I had picked up a box of 52 playing type cards of RELAXING RITUALS by Lynn Gordon. For the Busy and stressed out person. ”Pick one of these 52 whimsically illustrated cards when you need to relax and rejuvenate your mind, body and spirit….While commuting, during a coffee break or at the end or your day.”
I have decided for the next 52 Sundays I will take out one card, read it, carry it in my wallet/purse and apply the relaxation tips and wisdoms to my day and entire week.
Here is what the 1st RELAXATION RITUALS Card said, titled….
“The Power of TOUCH can be miraculous. There is a cute (though perhaps inaccurate) story
that porcupines often freeze to death in the winter because they can’t huddle together for warmth. Avoid the emotional equivalent of this tragedy in your life by engaging in daily hugs. And don’t be afraid to ask for a hug when you are feeling weary and really need one. You can also pamper yourself on a regular basis with monthly massages and semiannual facials. Some hair salons even include scalp massages with haircuts.”
Awww! That reminded me to give and get a few more hugs this week and to book another massage at Sutherland-Chan Massage School and Clinic and maybe find an affordable spa to get a facial. Any suggestions?
How do you relax and de-stress in the big and busy city? Feel free to share any tips and ideas!

I totally chilled on Sunday! I didn’t even make supper … Gord BBQed chicken.
Yes Sunday is officially my day of rest! And yeah for husbands like Gord
Good piece, Ann. I have found that Sunday is a day that many people take to rest, relax, and be peaceful.
I have a journal that I write in on Sunday that allows me to express my thoughts and feelings about the previous week. I always end the writing for that Sunday by listing 3-4 things that I am especially grateful about during the previous week.
With the terrible earthquake in Haiti, all of us here in Toronto have nothing really to complain about.!
Take care, and I will look forward to your next Sunday post and see what the next Relaxation Card says.
